What made you decide to start you own business? I have been in nursing 36 years. I enjoy working and anticipate working for 20 more years, and I wanted to be able to use the knowledge I have gained and expand on it. Legal nurse consulting gives me that opportunity. It keeps me stimulated and is the most exciting thing I have ever done in my nursing career.
How many times have you changed employers in your career? 3
What specific qualities and traits do you feel make nurses especially qualified to operate a business? Attention to detail! Exceptional organizational skills! Proficient in multi-tasking! Willingness to work long hours! Ability to look to the long term and not focus on the short term.
I am currently employed full time in a Pre-Operative Services unit.
I see the most pressing concern in the nursing profession and healthcare is the assurance that the consumer is getting what they are not only paying for, but what they deserve as they put their trust in others to care for them with utmost skill.
How do you feel the coming nursing shortage will affect patient care? I think more and more families will be attending to their loved one in the less acute settings while the licensed personnel will be used in the more acute settings, ie ICU, CICU, ED.
